NASHVILLE, TN, AUGUST 2-6, 2008 — The 2008 National Transportation Public Affairs Workshop awarded the summer edition of the iROX (I-75 Road Expansion Project) newsletter its top prize in a national competition between state departments of transportation. The newsletter was the creation of a talented team of Global-5 writers and graphic artists for the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
FDOT wanted its 30-mile six laning of I-75 through Lee and Collier counties to stand apart. It was the largest contract ever let in FDOT history and the department’s first ever design/build/finance effort. Given the project’s high national profile FDOT asked Global-5 for a comprehensive public information effort. Thus iROX was born.
Global-5 developed a multimedia approach to inform the public about this historic construction job. A video intensive website was developed to document iROX accomplishments. A blog with a local newspaper also helps keep area residents informed about progress. A public speaking service complete with power point presentations and display boards has proven popular with local media outlets and civic groups. The final piece of the information equation is Global-5’s 2008 NTPAW winning newsletter. The colorful quarterly chock full of vital information is mailed out to more than four thousand of stakeholders and delivered to area public libraries.
