Drawing upon their deep experience in transportation communications, Global-5 leaders will present a session on two successful traffic information and commuter alert systems that they helped develop and manage.
Attendees at the 35th Annual Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) International Conference will have much to choose from at the event to be held at the Walt Disney World Resort August 1 – 4.
The Global-5 session will feature a richly detailed look into the development, refinement, and management of two large projects:
- The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Florida 511 Advanced Traveler Information System.
- A first-of-its-kind commuter alert system for the I-4 Ultimate and I-4 Beyond the Ultimate projects.
Moderator Mike Wacht, who is vice president and director of industry intelligence at Global-5, played a significant role in both projects to be discussed at the session. “We’re excited to show colleagues how these systems can help commuters make better decisions and produce smoother, safer trips on some of the busiest roads in Florida,” Wacht said.
Chris Patton, vice president and director of staff operations at Global-5, will speak about the I-4 Ultimate and I-4 Beyond the Ultimate commuter alerts system. Although the huge construction projects eventually will cover 60 miles of interstate, the alert systems can be customized to meet the specific needs of individual drivers.
“We push information out to the people who need it, and we provide it on the platforms they like at the times they choose,” Patton said. He noted the system also can create alerts for media and nightly summaries of lane closures for first responders and other essential workers.
Speaking about Florida 511 will be Steve Novosad, who is senior project manager for engineering at HNTB and a frequent partner with Global-5 on transportation projects.
